The Adrenaline GTS 23 is the latest in a long line of GTS shoes that seem to have been around as long as I’ve been running. Its original raison d’etre was to provide stability to runners who overpronate. This latest running shoe continues that ethos, albeit in a different way to the original.
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23 features
Long gone is the old firm rubber insert in the middle of the insole. Nowadays it’s a guide rail running around the top of the midsole. That means the midsole is all the same density, allowing your foot to spread and strengthen properly.
As an overpronator myself who’s often resorted to inserts to counteract the roll, I grew more impressed with the Adrenaline GTS 23 the more I used it. That guide rail worked exactly as it should, encouraging me to push off with the front of my big toe, rather than the inside. A straighter toe box on the inside than previous iterations helps that too.

The fact that the shoe feels well balanced, with subtle yet effective cushioning, particularly beneath the balls of your feet, really encourages correct running form, whether you overpronate or not.
In fact that’s the main difference between this latest version and the GTS 22. A slightly softer DNA LOFT v2 midsole and wider forefoot give a plush ride but not overly so. There’s enough response there for pacier runs with enough cushioning to help you hold form over the longer miles.
Get kitted out with the best shorts for men
I wore the Adrenaline GTS 23 for over a month’s worth of mixed 5km and 10km runs. I also wore it for interval sessions, recovery runs and occasional 90-minute efforts. Their comfort levels straight out of the box were impressive, as was the stability they added to my longer runs. The 12mm heel-to-toe drop would work well for heel strikers. And while not featherweight, at just over 10oz / 280g they are light enough to be a reliable, responsive everyday trainer.
Should you buy the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23?
If you’ve worn GTS shoes before, you’ll probably appreciate the subtle tweaks to the GTS 23. If you haven’t, and are looking for a reliable stability shoe to log daily training miles, for the price you can’t go wrong with the latest Brooks Adrenaline. The use of almost 60% recycled materials in the uppers is a plus, as is the choice of widths. They come up true to size too.
